World’s largest solar-thermal power plant approved by U.S. for California

The United States of America can now raise its head in pride, owing to the fact that the country plays home to the world’s largest solar-thermal plant. The state of California has a project approved by the U.S. which will be the world’s largest power plant using heat and the sun to generate electricity. The $6 billion project approved by the U.S. interior Secretary Ken Salazar will be built on public land, known as the Blythe Solar Power Project. Using mirrors to concentrate the energy from the sun, the Blythe power plant will cover a sweet 7,025 acres on a site 216 miles (348 kilometers) east of Los Angeles and generate some 1,000 megawatts. A single megawatt can power up as many as 800 average U.S. homes!

With all that juice from the Blythe solar power plant, United State’s west coast is sure to go green!
